Dr. Seuss and St. Patrick's Day Ideas...

We make shamrock mosaics with wax paper and tissue paper squares. We hang them up on the windows when we are finished.
We fish for rhyming words in Centers after reading "Green Eggs and Ham."
I also have my kids make their own version of "Green Eggs and Ham" using pairs of rhyming words:
"Would you eat them with a bear? Would you eat them in a chair?"
We fish for words from different word families after reading "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish."
We make "-at" words in Centers after reading "The Cat in the Hat."

I write words on shamrocks to make a sentence and scramble them up. The kids then have to unscramble the words and write the sentence...

We also do other things for St. Patrick's Day. We use the marshmallows in Lucky Charms cereal to sort, graph and complete addition problems. I also spray painted lima beans with gold paint to make "leprechaun gold." We use it as math manipulatives during the month of March.... Below you can see some of my kids using it to add...

We also learn about Ireland and complete "Ireland Fact Books." We look at a map of Ireland and look at pictures of Irish landscapes. We also talk about Irish folklore and the legend of the leprechaun. In our writing center, we complete such prompts as:

  • How to catch a lerprechaun...
  • On St. Patrick's Day I like to...
  • At the end of the rainbow I found...
Hope everyone is having a happy March! It's almost SPRING!!
